Md. Helal,Bagerhat correspondent :
In the Corona situation in the country, the government employees can live in peace under the king, but the workers and the small capital businessmen are not good. Their lives are going through financial risks and crises. There are small traders in the marginal areas, especially in the coastal areas. The train of life seems to stop at every moment.
The outbreak of the epidemic corona virus has put a large number of private employees and working people in the country in such a situation.
A bander of Bagerhat Judge Court. Name Mehedi Hasan. Under normal circumstances, the income was a little more or less than one thousand per day. But due to corona, the court was closed.
Asked how Corona was dealing with the situation, he said Corona had initially declared the court closed on a public holiday.I have run the family with the money saved for the first two months. Since then he has been selling coconut palms, catching some fish from the pond in front of his house. I’ve been eating all day.
Md. Sohan Alam used to work in a private company in the country. Asked how Corona was doing in the situation, he told reporters that since the beginning of Corona, I have worked for a few days at half pay as per the company’s decision.
After that, the company’s activities were completely shut down and many employees like me were laid off. The way of income was completely blocked.
I can’t think what to do with my mother and sister at home now. Meanwhile, the landlord is constantly pressuring me for rent. Added to that is the ghostly electricity bill of electricity.
Miraj Sheikh, the counter master of the passenger bus, said that the counter of the coroner was closed from the beginning. Some days, if you continue in such a way that passengers are not available, you have to study with your family.
Crab trader Amit Pal told the reporter that the purchase order of crabs has been stopped one by one. The export of crabs was suddenly stopped from June 26. The country’s small crab traders, including Bagerhat, are in trouble. If such a situation continues, trade will have to come to an end.
According to the District Fisheries Office, there are 3,648 crab farmers in Bagerhat. And there are 3,006 crab enclosures in 1,410 hectares of land.About 75% of the crabs produced in the country are exported to China. And a small amount of crabs go to Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. An average of 200 tons of crabs are exported from Bagerhat every month. In the current situation, 50,000 traders, fishermen and workers involved in the industry in the district have been affected by the closure of the crab industry.
The country’s economy has collapsed under the influence of Corona.
Meanwhile, the poverty rate is increasing in the country. Private employees are not getting regular salary, they are also being fired. On the other hand, private teachers are in trouble. Even if they get a little incentive, it is not enough.
Many private sector organizations are being laid off. Expatriate income has also started declining, on which a large portion of the lower and middle classes depend and remittances from the country.
Due to the Corona crisis, there is a fear that millions of workers will lose their jobs and return from exile. Again, many have been forced to return to the country.
In this situation, lower class, middle class or private employees are not able to say, they are not able to bear it. There is no end to their danger.
Meanwhile, government doctors in the country are getting various benefits, but private doctors are being deprived of working in the front. Although many of them are engaged in corona treatment, there is no incentive. Even in many private hospitals, there are incidents of retrenchment of doctors and reduction of salaries.
At the same time, the journalists working in the marginal areas are not doing well. They are not getting any regular salary allowance. Journalist layoffs are also going on in many media houses. As there is no broadband facility, many people have to buy megabytes by borrowing money and send it to the news office.
On March 6, the first case of coronavirus was detected in the country. As the situation deteriorated, the government declared a general holiday from March 26 to April 4. After that the leave continues to increase. The last 7-day general holiday ended on May 30.
